يا مُستَخِفّاً بِعاشِقيهِ

يا مُستَخِفّاً بِعاشِقيهِ

وَمُستَغِشّاً لِناصِحيهِ

وَمُستَغِشّاً لِناصِحيهِ

O one who makes light of his lovers,

O you who scoff at lovers,

and suspects his advisers of deceit,

And deceive those who advise,

وَمَن أَطاعَ الوُشاةَ فينا

وَمَن أَطاعَ الوُشاةَ فينا

حَتّى أَطَعنا السُلُوَّ فيهِ

حَتّى أَطَعنا السُلُوَّ فيهِ

and who obeyed the slanderers about us,

He who obeyed the slanderers about us

until we obeyed forgetfulness concerning him.

Until we obeyed the weapons against him.

الحَمدُ لِلَّهِ إِذ أَراني

الحَمدُ لِلَّهِ إِذ أَراني

تَكذيبَ ما كُنتَ تَدَّعيهِ

تَكذيبَ ما كُنتَ تَدَّعيهِ

Praise be to God, for He showed me

Thanks be to God, for He showed me

the falsity of what you used to claim,

The falsity of your claims,

مِن قَبلِ أَن يُهزَمَ التَسَلّي

مِن قَبلِ أَن يُهزَمَ التَسَلّي

وَيَغلِبَ الشَوقُ ما يَليهِ

وَيَغلِبَ الشَوقُ ما يَليهِ

before self-consolation could be defeated

Before desire defeats patience,

and longing overcome whatever lies near it.

And longing overcomes what follows.
