O my lord, may you be granted your highest hope,

And may you always be granted a lengthened life.

And may you live as long as you wish in a reign

Of which long-lasting reigns fall short.

For you are he whose radiant deeds

Time has worn as adornment after going unadorned.

    Your enslaved servant is honored

By verse of carefully chosen words,

And wine that restores to one grown old

The sweetness of the days of budding youth.

So kindness has abashed me by its abundance,

And indeed, the reply reveals my embarrassment.

And the lord of mankind may always accept

The humble servant's best effort when he has little.

May you be fortunate as Jupiter is fortunate,

And may you attain heights Saturn has never attained.
