أَنسَتكَhas made you forget دُنياكَyour worldly life عَبداًa slave أَنتَyou مَولاهُhis master
أَنسَتكَ دُنياكَ عَبداً أَنتَ مَولاهُ
O distant one, yet dwelling in the heart's innermost depths,
O wanderer, and conscience is his heart's abode
Your worldly life has made you forget a slave whose master you are.
Your world forgot you, though a slave you were to it
أَلهَتكَhave distracted you عَنهُfrom him فُكاهاتٌamusements تَلَذُّyou delight بِهاin them

فَلَيسَ يَجري بِبالٍ مِنكَ ذِكراهُ
Amusements you delight in have distracted you from him,
It distracted you with joys that delight you
So no thought of him crosses your mind.
So it doesn't cross your mind to remember Him

الدَهرُ يَعلَمُ وَالأَيّامُ مَعناهُ
Perhaps the nights will keep me alive to see a hope fulfilled,
Perhaps the nights will keep me hoping
Whose meaning time and the days know.
Time knows, and days - their meaning
