قامَwas established بِكَin you العُذرُthe excuse فَلاso no لائِمُone who blames
My secret and my avowal are that I am lost in love.
My secret and my overt, I am lovesick
In you lies my excuse, so no one can blame me.
Excuses stand for you, so no blame cast on me
لاmay not يَنَمِsleep الواشيthe slanderer الَّذيwho غَرَّنيdeceived me
هاbehold أَناI فيin ظِلِّthe shade of الرِضىfavor نائِمُasleep
May the slanderer who deceived me have no sleep.
Sleeplessness won't quit the watcher who misled me
Here I am, asleep in the shade of favor.
You've returned to union, as I desired
عُدتَyou returned إِلىto الوَصلِunion كَماjust as أَشتَهيI desire
فَالهَجرُso estrangement باكٍweeping وَالرِضىand favor باسِمُsmiling
You have returned to union, just as I desire.
So estrangement weeps, and acceptance smiles
So estrangement weeps, and favor smiles.
It's enough that I'm the wronged one in what occurred
حَسبيenough for me أَناI المَظلومُthe wronged one فيماin what جَرىhappened
وَإِنand if تَشَأyou wish قُلتَyou said أَناI الظالِمُthe wrongdoer
It is enough for me that I was the wronged one in what happened.
And if you wish, say I'm the unjust one
And if you wish, you may say: 'I am the wrongdoer.'
O questioner, about what's in my soul
ياO سائِلاًone who asks عَمّاabout what بِنَفسيwithin my soul لَهُfor him
تَجَنِّياًunjustly وَهوَthough he بِهِof it عالِمُaware
O you who ask what my soul holds for him,
Reproaching while he knows it full well
Unjustly, though he knows it—

You are the meaning of love and the embodiment of wishes.
Leave me be, from what the claimant claims
Spare me whatever the claimant claims.
