وَاِستَحدَثَ القَلبُ شَوقاً بَعدَ سُلوانِ

I recalled love anew after forgetting,

I have revived the memories of passion after forgetfulness

And the heart kindled fresh longing after solace,

And my heart has rekindled longing after tranquility

مِن حُبِّ جارِيَةٍ يَبدو بِها صَنَمٌ

مِن حُبِّ جارِيَةٍ يَبدو بِها صَنَمٌ

مِن اللُجَينِ عَلَيهِ تاجُ عِقيانِ

مِن اللُجَينِ عَلَيهِ تاجُ عِقيانِ

From love of a maiden who seems an idol,

For the love of a maiden who appears like an idol

Of silver, upon it a crown of pure gold.

With a crown of braids over her smooth cheeks

غَريرَةٌ لَم تُفارِقها تَمائِمُها

غَريرَةٌ لَم تُفارِقها تَمائِمُها

تَسبي العُقولَ بِساجي الطَرفِ وَسنانِ

تَسبي العُقولَ بِساجي الطَرفِ وَسنانِ

An innocent maiden whose amulets have not left her,

A coquette never parted from her charms

She takes minds captive with her tranquil, drowsy gaze.

Who captivates minds with her alluring glances and teeth

لَأَستَجِدَّنَّ في عِشقي لَها زَمَناً

لَأَستَجِدَّنَّ في عِشقي لَها زَمَناً

يُنسي سَوالِفَ أَيّامي وَأَزماني

يُنسي سَوالِفَ أَيّامي وَأَزماني

I shall surely find, in my love for her, a new age,

I will find in my passion for her a time

That makes me forget my bygone days and times,

That makes me forget the tales of my days and years

حَتّى تَكونَ لِمَن أَحبَبتُ خاتِمَةً

حَتّى تَكونَ لِمَن أَحبَبتُ خاتِمَةً

نَسَختُ في حُبِّها كُفراً بِإيمانِ

نَسَختُ في حُبِّها كُفراً بِإيمانِ

So that she may be the last of those I have loved;

Until she becomes for the one I fell in love with a conclusion

In loving her, I have replaced unbelief with faith.

In whose love I have reneged on my faith
