أَكرِمhow fine! بِوَلّادَةٍis Wallada ذُخراًas a treasure لِمُدَّخِرٍfor one who stores treasure
لَوif فَرَّقَتshe distinguished بَينَbetween بَيطارٍa farrier وَعَطّارِand a perfumer
How fine a treasure Wallada would be for one who treasures her,
Honor with childbirth a treasure for the hoarder,
If only she distinguished between a farrier and a perfumer!
Even if it separated a veterinarian from a perfumer.

They said, “Abu Amir has taken to visiting her.”
They said Abu Amir has become intimate with her.
I said, “A moth may draw near the fire.”
I said the moth may approach the fire.
عَيَّرتُموناyou taunted us بِأَنbecause قَدalready صارَhe has come to يَخلُفُناhe takes our place
فيمَنwith the one whom نُحِبُّwe love وَماand no فيin ذاكَthat مِنany عارِshame
You taunted us because he has come to take our place
You reproached us that he has come to succeed us
With the one we love—and there is no shame in that.
In whom we love- there is no shame in that.

A delicious meal: of its delicacies we took
A delicious food whose delicacies
Some, and some we left untouched for the mouse.
We took some and forgave some for the mouse.
