ياO قاطِعاًone who severs حَبلَthe cord of وُدّيmy love
وَواصِلاًand one who joins حَبلَthe cord of صَدّيshunning me
O you who sever the cord of my love,
And join the cord of shunning me,
وَسالِياًand forgetful of love لَيسَdoes not يَدريknow
بِطولِof the length of بَثّيmy anguish وَوَجديand my yearning
And, forgetful of love, know nothing
Of my long anguish and yearning:
لَوif كانَthere were عِندَكَwith you مِنّيfrom me
مِثلُthe like of الَّذيthat which مِنكَfrom you عِنديwith me
If you felt for me
What I feel for you,
لَبِتَّyou would pass the night بَعدِيَin my absence مِثليlike me
وَبِتُّand I would pass the night مِثلَكَlike you بَعديin my absence
You would pass the night in my absence as I do,
And I would pass the night as you do in my absence.
