    فَلِلَّهِ مِنّا أَجمَلُ الشُكرِ وَالحَمدِ

    May you rejoice that your bloodletting has ended well;

so to God belong our finest thanks and praise.

And how astonishing that a bloodletter's lancet,

which you received, did not turn back with a blunted edge!

And how was the man who bled your right hand not

terrified by the ocean's surge at the height of its tide?

Nor did the sun with its radiant rays dazzle him

and make him stray from his intended course.

Your shed blood flowed through the earth, and it clothed itself

    in a garden's varied blooms, like a mantle's border.

A bloodletting that sweetened the age, like rain in the soil,

as rosewater grows fragrant in rose-hued ambergris.

The world has indeed kept faith with you in its support,

as though you had taught it nobility in keeping faith.

In a fresh young age, lovely in its sheen,

like the sheen of roses in a blushing cheek,

you make life sweet there, beneath the shelter of a realm

met on every side by the auspicious star.

So rise to pleasures, choosing rest

    with which to refresh your precious soul for toil;

and keep it flowing, amid pearls of its foam,

    like a delicate maiden's neck amid a necklace's pearls.

And if, in your generosity, you invite us for company,

for a master, when in good spirits, may indeed enjoy a servant's company.
