لَمّاwhen اِتَّصَلتِyou became attached اِتِّصالَlike the attachment of الخِلبِthe liver's membrane بِالكَبِدِto the liver
لَمّا اِتَّصَلتِ اِتِّصالَ الخِلبِ بِالكَبِدِ
ثُمَّthen امتَزَجتِyou mingled اِمتِزاجَlike the mingling of الروحِthe soul بِالجَسَدِwith the body
ثُمَّ امتَزَجتِ اِمتِزاجَ الروحِ بِالجَسَدِ
When you clung to me as the membrane clings to the liver,
Then mingled with me as the soul mingles with the body,
ساءَvexed الوُشاةُthe slanderers مَكانيmy place مِنكِwith you وَاِتَّقَدَتand blazed
ساءَ الوُشاةُ مَكاني مِنكِ وَاِتَّقَدَت
فيin صَدرِthe breast of كُلِّevery عَدُوٍّenemy جَمرَةُthe ember of الحَسَدِenvy
في صَدرِ كُلِّ عَدُوٍّ جَمرَةُ الحَسَدِ
My place with you vexed the slanderers, and there blazed
In every enemy's breast the ember of envy.
فَليَسخَطِso let them be angry الناسُthe people لاnot أُهدِI offer الرِضىsatisfaction لَهُمُto them
فَليَسخَطِ الناسُ لا أُهدِ الرِضى لَهُمُ
وَلاand let not يَضِعbe lost لَكِto you عَهدٌa pledge آخَرَto the end of الأَبَدِeternity
وَلا يَضِع لَكِ عَهدٌ آخَرَ الأَبَدِ
So let people be angry; I will offer them no appeasement,
And let no pledge to you be lost, to the end of time.
لَوِif اِستَطَعتُI could إِذاwhenever ماan emphatic particle كُنتِyou were غائِبَةًabsent
لَوِ اِستَطَعتُ إِذا ما كُنتِ غائِبَةً
غَضَضتُI would lower طَرفيmy gaze فَلَمand so would not أَنظُرlook إِلىat أَحَدِanyone
غَضَضتُ طَرفي فَلَم أَنظُر إِلى أَحَدِ
If I could, whenever you were absent,
I would lower my gaze and look at no one.
