بَينيbetween me وَبَينَكَand between you ماsomething that لَوif شِئتَyou wished لَمnot يَضِعِbe lost
بَيني وَبَينَكَ ما لَو شِئتَ لَم يَضِعِ
سِرٌّa secret إِذاwhen ذاعَتِbecame public الأَسرارُthe secrets لَمnot يَذِعِbecome public
سِرٌّ إِذا ذاعَتِ الأَسرارُ لَم يَذِعِ
Between me and you is something that, had you wished, would not have been lost:
Between you and I, whatever you wish would not go amiss
A secret that, when secrets are revealed, remains unrevealed.
A secret, once spread, no longer stays a secret
ياO بائِعاًone who sells حَظَّهُhis share مِنّيof me وَلَوand even if بُذِلَتwere offered
يا بائِعاً حَظَّهُ مِنّي وَلَو بُذِلَت
لِيَto me الحَياةُlife بِحَظّيin exchange for my share مِنهُof him لَمnot أَبِعِI would sell
لِيَ الحَياةُ بِحَظّي مِنهُ لَم أَبِعِ
O you who sell your share of me—even were
O you who sold me your fortune, even if I paid the price
Life offered to me for my share of him, I would not sell.
My life for your fortune, I would not sell
يَكفيكَit is enough for you أَنَّكَthat you إِنif حَمَّلتَyou burdened قَلبِيَmy heart ماwhat
يَكفيكَ أَنَّكَ إِن حَمَّلتَ قَلبِيَ ما
لَمnot تَستَطِعهُcould bear it قُلوبُthe hearts الناسِof people يَستَطِعِit can bear
لَم تَستَطِعهُ قُلوبُ الناسِ يَستَطِعِ
It is enough for you that, if you burden my heart with what
It suffices you that you burdened my heart with what
People's hearts cannot bear, it can bear it.
Other people's hearts cannot endure
تِهbe haughty أَحتَمِلI will endure وَاِستَطِلand be overbearing أَصبُرI will be patient وَعِزَّand be exalted أَهُنI will be abased
تِه أَحتَمِل وَاِستَطِل أَصبُر وَعِزَّ أَهُن
وَوَلِّand turn away أُقبِلI will approach وَقُلand speak أَسمَعI will listen وَمُرand command أَطِعِI will obey
وَوَلِّ أُقبِل وَقُل أَسمَع وَمُر أَطِعِ
Be haughty—I will endure; be overbearing—I will be patient; be exalted—I will be abased.
I bear it, persevere, honor in humiliation
And turn away—I will approach; speak—I will listen; command—I will obey.
Turn to face you, say I hear, order I obey
