أَلاAh! لَيتَif only شِعريmy knowing هَلwhether أُصادِفُI chance upon خَلوَةًa moment alone
أَلا لَيتَ شِعري هَل أُصادِفُ خَلوَةً
لَدَيكِwith you (feminine) فَأَشكوso I may lament بَعضَsome of ماwhat أَناI واجِدُfeeling
لَدَيكِ فَأَشكو بَعضَ ما أَنا واجِدُ
Ah, if only I knew whether I might find a moment alone
If only I knew, will I find a moment alone with you
With you, so I may lament some of what I feel.
To complain of some of the torment I endure
رَعىmay bless اللَهُGod يَوماًa day فيهِin it أَشكوI lament صَبابَتيmy ardent longing
رَعى اللَهُ يَوماً فيهِ أَشكو صَبابَتي
وَأَجفانُand the eyelids عَينيof my eye بِالدُموعِwith tears شَواهِدُwitnesses
وَأَجفانُ عَيني بِالدُموعِ شَواهِدُ
May God bless a day when I lament my ardent longing,
May God grant a day when I can complain of my passion
And my eyelids bear witness with tears.
