We have grown distant, though the dwelling is neither far nor remote;
visiting those we love has become distant, though they have not gone far.

O our beloveds, our newly made bond has been swept away
by calamities bound by neither covenant nor condition.

the scattering of our whole company is grossly unjust.

its visits are intermittent, its brief calls far between.

my sigh supplies its vowel marks, and my tear its dots.

of lofty worth, though it has suffered abasement.

they have surely laid my cheek beneath the sole of anyone who walks.
