Your verse, O my life, O its radiance,
My ode to you, O life and its years,
Your poetry, O my life, O its radiant light,
is my soul's desire; may she never lack her desires.
My soul's wish so it would never lose its desire,
Is the ultimate hope of my soul, so may it never lose its hope.
بَقِيتَmay you remain لَهَاfor her وَلِلإِسْلاَمِand for Islam حِصْناًa fortress
تُرِيحُyou relieve شَمْسَsun سَلْوَتِهَاher solace عَنَاهَاher suffering
May you remain a fortress for her and for Islam,
You remained a fortress for it and for Islam,
May you remain a fortress for it, and for Islam,
relieving her suffering, O sun of her solace.
Giving comfort from the heat of its suffering.
Whose sun of solace relieves its distress.
قَرِيضُكَyour verse وَاللَّطَافَةِby grace يَاO أَخَاهَاits brother
وَلاَand may ... not عَدِمَتْكَshe lacked you مَرْتَعُهُits pasture حَشَاهَاher heart
Your verse—by grace, O brother of grace—
My ode and gentleness to you O brother,
Your poetry and elegance, O brother of such grace,
(and may she never lose you!) has her heart for its pasture.
May its pasture never lose you.
May my soul's core, its fertile pasture, never be deprived of you.
فَدَيْتُكَmay I be your ransom هَلْdo ...? عَلِمْتَyou knew بِأَنَّof the fact that عَقْلِيmy mind
عَقِيرُslain عُقَارِwine شِعْرِكِyour poetry مُذْsince حَشَاهَاit filled her
May I be your ransom! Do you know that my mind
I ransom you - do you know that my mind
May I be your ransom! Did you know that my mind
has been slain by the wine of your poetry since it filled her?
Is captivated by the magic of your poetry since it sensed it?
Is struck down by the wine of your poetry ever since it filled its depths.
