أَبْدَى الأَصِيلُ شَمَائِلَ الْعُشَّاقِ

شَدْواً وَرَقْصاً وَالْتِزَامَ عِنَاقِ

شَدْواً وَرَقْصاً وَالْتِزَامَ عِنَاقِ

The late afternoon revealed the ways of lovers:

The noble lover expressed the attributes of lovers

The late afternoon revealed the traits of lovers,

Singing, dancing, and holding fast in embrace.

Passionately dancing, clinging to embrace

In singing, dancing, and a clinging embrace;

لَمْ يَبْتَسِمْ بَيْنَ الْبِطَاحِ مُسَلِّماً

لَمْ يَبْتَسِمْ بَيْنَ الْبِطَاحِ مُسَلِّماً

حَتَّى بَكَى فَوْقَ الْرُّبَى لِفِرَاقِ

حَتَّى بَكَى فَوْقَ الْرُّبَى لِفِرَاقِ

No sooner had it smiled in greeting amid the plains

He did not smile in resignation amongst the dunes

It did not smile among the wide plains in greeting,

Than it wept above the hills at parting.

Until he wept, atop the hill, for separation

Until it wept above the hills for the parting.
