اَلرَّوْضُthe garden فِيin الصَّبَاحْthe morning
The garden in the morning,
The garden in the morning
The garden in the morning
intoxicated with dew,
Is joyful with fresh blooms
Is intoxicated by the remnants of dew,
أَرْسَلَsent forth بِالأَقَاحْthrough the daisies
مُهَذَّبَrefinement of الْعُقُولْthe minds
has sent forth through the daisies
It sends with pollen
Sending forth through the chamomile
what refines the minds.
Minds refined and polished
That which refines the minds;
تَرْوِيrecount بِهِthrough it الرِّيَاحْthe winds
شَمَائِلَvirtues of الرَّسُولْthe Messenger
Through it the winds recount
The winds spread through it
The winds narrate through it
the Messenger's virtues.
The features of the Messenger
The noble traits of the Messenger.
يُعَلِّمُteaches الطَّبِيبْthe physician
كَيْفِيّةَmanner of الْعِلاَجْtreatment
It teaches the physician
It teaches the doctor
It teaches the physician
the manner of treatment,
How to properly cure
The method of healing,
إِذْfor نَشْرُهُits fragrance مُذِيبْdissolving
بُرَودَةَcoldness of الْمِزَاجْthe constitution
for its fragrance dissolves
As its branches soothe
For its spreading fragrance dissolves
the coldness of the constitution.
Ill moods and temper
The coldness of the temperament.
فَيَنْثَنِيand so he turns الْبَلِيدْthe dullard
فِيin وَصْفِهِits description يَقُولْhe says
Then the dullard turns
So the weak rejoice
So the slow-witted is moved to sway,
to describing it, saying
When it is described
Saying in its description
مَاwhat يُطْرِبُdelights الْجَلِيدْthe steadfast person
وَيَخْصِمُand confounds الْعَذُولْthe reproacher
what delights the steadfast,
It delights the frigid soul
Words that delight the stoic,
and confounds the reproacher,
And defeats the stubborn
And silence the blamer,
وَيُبْرِئُand heals الْعَمِيدْthe afflicted one
ذَاhaving السِّلِّconsumption وَالذُّبُولْand wasting
and heals the afflicted,
It cures the revered one
And cure the deeply afflicted,
suffering from consumption and wasting.
Of phlegm and melancholy
Stricken with consumption and withering.
أَنْبَأَنَاinformed us الْقَضِيبْthe branch
فِيin ضِمْنِthe midst of الاِحْتِيَاجْneed
The branch has told us,
The staff informed us
The branch has informed us,
amid its need,
In the context of need
Amidst its state of need,
أَنَّthat الدُّنَىthe worlds تَطِيبْgrow sweet
لِتَارِكِfor one who abandons اللُّجَاجْobstinacy
that the worlds grow sweet
That worldly comforts
That the world becomes sweet
for whoever abandons obstinacy.
Await those who abandon contention
For the one who abandons stubborn disputes,
وَلِلَّذِيand for the one who يُدِيرْpasses round
كُؤُوسَcups of الاِعْتِبَارْreflection
And for whoever passes round
And those who pass around
And for the one who passes around
the cups of reflection,
Cups of lesson and consideration
The cups of contemplation.
فِيin رَوْضَةِa garden of النَّضِيرْthe verdant greenery
بُرْهَانُproof of الاِفْتِقَارْdependence
in the verdant garden
In the garden of the intimate
In the radiant garden,
there is proof of dependence.
Proof of poverty
The proof of absolute need
يَعْلَمُهُknows it الْبَصِيرْthe discerning one
كَالشَّمْسِlike the sun فِيin النَّهَارْthe daytime
The discerning one knows it,
The insightful know it
Is known to the insightful one
as plainly as the sun in daylight.
Like the sun in broad daylight
As clearly as the sun in the day.
بَيْنَwhile يُرَىis seen جَدِيبْbarren
فِيin شِدَّةِseverity of احْتِيَاجْneed
While it is seen barren,
When a desert is seen
One moment it appears barren,
in dire need,
In dire need of rain
In a state of severe need,
إِذَاsuddenly بِهِthere it is خَصِيبْfertile
فِيin حُلَلِrobes of ايْتِهَاجْrejoicing
suddenly it is fertile,
It becomes fertile
Then suddenly it is lush and fertile,
in robes of rejoicing.
In garments of joy
Clothed in garments of joy.
