فَالْهَاشِمِيَّةُso al-Hashimiyya بَعْدَafter قُرْبِthe nearness of مَزَارِهَاher place of visitation
شَطَّتْgrew distant نَوَاهَاher remoteness مَاhow أَمَرَّbitter نَوَاهَاseparation from her
So al-Hashimiyya, once near enough to visit,
After being near its tomb, Al-Hashimiyya
The Hashimite, after the closeness of her abode,
is now far away—how bitter parting from her!
Extended its intent wherever it intended.
Has moved far away; how bitter is her departure!
وَالْهَاشِمِيَّةُand al-Hashimiyya لاَnot يَزَالُceases بِخَاطِرِيin my mind

And for al-Hashimiyya, there remains in my mind
And Al-Hashimiyya continues in my mind
And the Hashimite remains ever in my mind,
a longing whose fire her memory kindles.
A yearning that ignites its fire when I remember it.
A longing whose fire is kindled by her memory.
وَالْهَاشِمِيَّةُand al-Hashimiyya مِنْthrough سِيَادَةِthe supremacy of حُسْنِهَاher beauty

And al-Hashimiyya, through her beauty’s supremacy,
And Al-Hashimiyya, from the supremacy of its beauty
And the Hashimite, through the sovereign mastery of her beauty,
makes everyone who forgets her forget supremacy.
Makes one forget all supremacy if one forgets it.
Makes all who forget her forget their own sovereignty.
وَالْهَاشِمِيَّةُand al-Hashimiyya رَبُّنَاour Lord يَرْعَاهَاwatches over her

And al-Hashimiyya—our Lord watches over her—
And Al-Hashimiyya, may our Lord protect it
And the Hashimite, may our Lord protect her,
must be cherished by discerning minds,
It is right for minds to protect it.
It is a duty upon all minds to cherish her,
وَتَجُولَand roam فِيamong أَوْصَافِهَاher qualities أَفْكَارُهَاtheir thoughts
وَتَرُودُand explore رَوْضَةَthe garden of حُسْنِهَاher beauty وَبَهَاهَاand her splendor
whose thoughts must roam among her qualities,
And its qualities roam in thoughts
And for their thoughts to wander through her descriptions,
and explore the garden of her beauty and splendor,
And its beauty and splendor circle in the meadow.
And to explore the garden of her beauty and her splendor,
وَتُطَرِّزَand embroider الأَشْعَارَthe poems وَهْيَwhile they are أَنِيقَةٌelegant

and embroider verses, elegant as they are,
And it elegantly adorns poetry
And to embroider poems, elegant as they are,
with her wondrous radiance and the beauty of her adornments.
With the wonders of its rhymes and beauty of its wording.
With the marvel of her radiance and the beauty of her adornments.
لُذْنَاwe sought refuge عَلَىdespite أَنْthe fact that لاَتَnot حِينَthe time for لِيَاذِنَاour seeking refuge
مِنْfrom شَوْقِنَاour longing فَقُلُوبُنَاfor our hearts أَضْنَاهَاit had worn them out
We sought refuge—though it was no time for us to do so—
It is delightful when it gives us permission
We sought refuge, though the time for seeking refuge had passed,
from our longing, for it had worn our hearts out,
Of our longing, so our hearts have become its home.
From our longing, which has utterly exhausted our hearts,
بِحَدِيثِهَاin talk of her إِنَّindeed الْقُلُوبَthe hearts تَلَذُّهُdelight in it
فَكََأَنَّهَاso it is as though they شَرِبَتْdrank بِهِthrough it أَمْوَاهَاwater
in talk of her; indeed, hearts delight in it,
With its talk, indeed hearts find it sweet,
In her conversation, for indeed hearts find delight in it,
so it is as though they had drunk water through it.
As if they have quenched their thirst with it.
As if they had drunk their life-giving waters through it.
فَالْهَاشِمِيَّةُso al-Hashimiyya ذِكْرُهَاher remembrance مِنْbecause of طِيبِهِits fragrance
قَدْindeed طَيَّبَhas perfumed الأَسْمَاعَthe ears وَالأَفْوَاهَاand the mouths
So al-Hashimiyya’s remembrance, through its fragrance,
Al-Hashimiyya, its mention is of purity
For the Hashimite, her mere mention, through its sweet fragrance,
has indeed perfumed ears and mouths.
It has sweetened the ears and mouths.
Has perfumed both the ears and the mouths.
وَالْهَاشِمِيَّةُand al-Hashimiyya رَوْضَةٌa garden مَمْطُورَةٌwatered by rain
تَجْنِيharvests الْحَيَاةَlife لِكُلِّfor everyone مَنْwho يَهْوَاهَاloves her
And al-Hashimiyya is a rain-watered garden,
And Al-Hashimiyya is an irrigated meadow
And the Hashimite is a garden showered by rain,
harvesting life for everyone who loves her.
That reaps life for all who love it.
Yielding life for everyone who loves her.
وَاهاًah! لِمَنْfor the one who مَلَكَتْshe has possessed مَجَامِعَthe whole of قَلْبِهِhis heart
لِذَلِكَfor that one ثُمَّthen وَاهاًah!
Ah, for him whose whole heart she has possessed!
Woe to he who has owned the insides of his heart.
Ah, for the one whose heart's core she has possessed,
Ah for that one, then ah, ah!
Woe to that, then woe, woe, woe.
Ah for that! And then again, ah, and ah!
