أَعْدَىturned against عَلَيَّagainst me الشِّعْرُpoetry كُلَّevery سَفِيهٍfool
أَعْدَى عَلَيَّ الشِّعْرُ كُلَّ سَفِيهٍ
فَتَرَكْتُهُso I abandoned it إِذَّاكَthen زُهْداًout of disinterest فِيهِin it
فَتَرَكْتُهُ إِذَّاكَ زُهْداً فِيهِ
Poetry turned every fool against me,
Poetry of every foolish one has transgressed against me
Poetry has incited every fool against me,
So I abandoned it then, no longer desiring it.
So I abandoned it then, with disinterest in it
So I abandoned it then, in pure renunciation.
أَسْتَغْفِرُI seek forgiveness from الرَّحْمَانَthe All-Merciful مِمَّاfor what صُغْتُهُI fashioned it
أَسْتَغْفِرُ الرَّحْمَانَ مِمَّا صُغْتُهُ
مِنْof حِلْيَهِits adornments الأَسْنَىthe most splendid لِغَيْرِfor those other than ذَوِيهِthose worthy of it
مِنْ حِلْيَهِ الأَسْنَى لِغَيْرِ ذَوِيهِ
I seek the All-Merciful’s forgiveness for what I fashioned
I ask the Most Merciful for forgiveness for what I listened to
I seek forgiveness from the Most Merciful for what I have fashioned
Of its most splendid adornments for those unworthy of it.
Of its fine adornments, to other than its rightful owners
Of its most radiant ornaments for those unworthy of them.
