يَالَيْلَةًO night قدْindeed هامَwas enraptured فيهاin it فُؤادِيmy heart
يَالَيْلَةً قدْ هامَ فيها فُؤادِي
لَمْdid not أَكْتَحِلْanoint my eyes شَغَفاًout of passion بِهَاfor it بِرُقادِwith sleep
لَمْ أَكْتَحِلْ شَغَفاً بِهَا بِرُقادِ
O night in which my heart was enraptured!
O night in which my heart is restless
O night in which my heart has wandered in deep infatuation,
Out of passion for it, I did not anoint my eyes with sleep.
I could not sleep out of passion for it and its vigil
Out of passion for it, I did not line my eyes with slumber.
لِمْwhy لاnot وَقَدْand indeed لاَحَتْshone forth بِهَاin it الأَنْوارُthe lights مِنْfrom
لِمْ لا وَقَدْ لاَحَتْ بِهَا الأَنْوارُ مِنْ
خَيْرِthe best of الوَرىhumankind تُبْرِيbring relief مِنَfrom الأَنْكادِafflictions
خَيْرِ الوَرى تُبْرِي مِنَ الأَنْكادِ
Why not, when lights shone forth within it from
Why not, when from the best of creation have shone lights
And why not? When within it the lights have gleamed from
the best of humankind, bringing relief from afflictions?
That save us from distresses
The best of creation, healing all afflictions.
صَلَّىmay He send blessings عليهِupon him اللهُGod ماas long as أَهْدَتْbestowed لَنَاupon us
صَلَّى عليهِ اللهُ ما أَهْدَتْ لَنَا
وَضَّاحَradiant نُورِهِhis light لَيْلَةُthe night of الْمِيلادِthe birth
وَضَّاحَ نُورِهِ لَيْلَةُ الْمِيلادِ
May God bless him for as long as we are granted
May God send blessings upon him who guided us
May Allah send blessings upon him, for as long as it bestows upon us
his radiant light by the night of his birth.
His light illuminated the night of his birth
His radiant light, the night of his birth.
