بِرُوحِيwith my soul مَنْthe one who أَوْدَىdestroyed بِعَقْلِيmy reason حُبُّهُlove for him
وَلَمْand did not تَسْلُنِيdistract me عَنْهُfrom him كُؤُوسُcups رَحِيقِpure wine
My soul would ransom him whose love has undone my reason.
With my soul I ransom the one whose love has ruined my reason,
And cups of pure wine have not made me forget him.
And cups of nectar could offer me no solace from him.
يُوَاصِلُنِيhe grants me union حَتَّىuntil أَفِيقَI recover مِنَfrom الْجَوَىlove's anguish
وَيَهْجُرُنِيand he forsakes me حَتَّىuntil أَغَصَّI choke بِرِيقِon saliva
He grants me union until I recover from love's anguish,
He grants me union until I awake from my burning anguish,
And forsakes me until I choke on my saliva.
Then forsakes me until I choke on my very breath.
غَدَوْتُI have become بِهِthrough him مِنْbecause of وَصْلِهِhis union وَصُدُودِهِand his rejection
بِدَارِin an abode of نَعِيمٍbliss أَوْor عَذَابِtorment of حَرِيقِburning fire
Through him, through his union and rejection, I have come to be
Through him, between his embraces and his rejections, I have come to dwell
In an abode of bliss or the torment of burning fire.
In an abode of bliss or the torment of a burning fire.
