ذَابَmelted قَلْبِيmy heart مِنَfrom الصُّدُودِrejection وَلَوْلاَand were it not for
ذَابَ قَلْبِي مِنَ الصُّدُودِ وَلَوْلاَ
مَاwhat أُرَجِّيI hope for مِنَof الْوِصَالِunion قَضَيْتُI would have perished
مَا أُرَجِّي مِنَ الْوِصَالِ قَضَيْتُ
My heart has melted from rejection, and were it not for
My heart is melting from the estrangement, and if not
My heart has melted from rejection, and were it not
the union I hope for, I would have perished.
For my hope of reunion, I would have perished
For what I hope of our union, I would have perished.
لَيْتَif only شِعْرِيmy knowledge وَهَلْand will يَرِقُّfeel compassion لِحَالِيfor my plight
لَيْتَ شِعْرِي وَهَلْ يَرِقُّ لِحَالِي
مَنْthe one whom هَوِيْتُI loved فَإِنَّنِيfor indeed I قَدْalready هَوَيْتُI have fallen
مَنْ هَوِيْتُ فَإِنَّنِي قَدْ هَوَيْتُ
If only I knew: will he take pity on my plight—
I wish I knew: does my state affect
Would that I knew: will they ever soften to my state,
the one I love? For I have fallen.
The one I love? For I have loved
The one I love? For indeed, I have fallen.
