قَدْ أَعْوَزَتْهُ مُتىً يُرَدِّدُهَا
May they both endure, sustaining an exile’s solace,
The exile's soul is sustained by the two of you
May they both forever sustain the comfort of an exile,
whose oft-repeated wishes have eluded him.
Though yearning has crippled him whenever he repeats your name
Who is bereft of the hopes he ceaselessly repeats.

فَاهْتَاجَ يَسْرُدُهَا فَيُحْمِدُهَا
The jewels of your adornment captivated Ibn Zakur,
Zakur's son was captivated by your jewelry's glow
The exquisite ornament of your qualities has captivated Ibn Zakour,
so he was stirred to recount it and find it praiseworthy,
So he recited it with joy and praise
Stirring him to recount them and sing their praise,
مُعْتَقِداًbelieving أَنَّهُthat he وَإِنْand even if بَلَغَتْit reaches
مُعْتَقِداً أَنَّهُ وَإِنْ بَلَغَتْ

فِيهِ الْبَلاَغَةُ لاَ يُحَدِّدُهَا
believing that, however far
Firm in his belief though eloquence had reached
Convinced that, even if eloquence were to reach
eloquence may reach in him, he cannot encompass it.
Its heights, he could not confine it
Its absolute peak within him, he could never truly define them.
