أُعَفِّرُI cover with dust وَجْهِيmy face فِيin ثَرَاكَyour earth الْمُعَطَّرِperfumed
أُعَفِّرُ وَجْهِي فِي ثَرَاكَ الْمُعَطَّرِ
لِتَنْظُرَso that you may see مِنْsome of لَأْوْىanguish فُؤَادِيmy heart الْمُفَطَّرِshattered
لِتَنْظُرَ مِنْ لَأْوْى فُؤَادِي الْمُفَطَّرِ
I rub my face in your perfumed earth,
I rub my face in your fragrant soil
I rub my face in your fragrant earth,
That you may see something of my shattered heart’s anguish.
So you may look from the abode of my heart, broken open.
that you might gaze upon the anguish of my shattered heart.
وَأَشْدُوand I sing وَفَرْطُand the excess of الْوَجْدِlonging غَيْرُnot مُنَظِّرِيgranting me respite
وَأَشْدُو وَفَرْطُ الْوَجْدِ غَيْرُ مُنَظِّرِي
أَلَاAh! فَاجْبُرَنْthen do mend صَدْعِيmy fracture أَمَوْلاَيَO my lord مَنْظَرِيManzari (name)
أَلَا فَاجْبُرَنْ صَدْعِي أَمَوْلاَيَ مَنْظَرِي
And I sing, though overwhelming longing grants me no respite.
I sing though ecstasy overrides my composure -
And I sing, while overwhelming passion grants me no reprieve:
Ah, then mend my brokenness, O my lord Manzari.
Oh, mend my fracture, my days are numbered!
Ah, mend my brokenness, O my Master, and behold my state.
