لله يوم شربنا فيه كأس منى — Abn Zakur

لِلَّهِ يَوْمَ شَرِبْنَا فِيهِ كَأْسَ مُنىً

بَيْنَ الْحَدَائِقِ مِنْ أَطْوَادِ اغْصَاوَهْ

God be praised for the day when we drank a cup of wishes,

among the gardens in the mountains of Aghsawah.

غَاضَتْ بُحَيْرَةُ هَمِّي يَوْمَ ذَاكَ كَمَا

غَاضَتْ لِخَلْقِ الرَّسُولِ الْمُصْطَفَى سَاوَهْ

The lake of my worry dried up that day, just as

Sawah dried up at the creation of the chosen Messenger.

صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ إِلَهُ الْعَرْشِ مَا عَجَزَتْ

أَهْلُ السَّمَا وَالثَّرَى أَنْ يُدْرِكُوا شَأْوَهْ

May the God of the Throne bless him, as long as

the dwellers of heaven and earth cannot attain his stature.

يُضْحِكُنِي قَوْلُهُمْ أَيٍّهَا وَكَسْرُهُمُ

هَاءَ الْمُؤَنَّثِ مَعْ قَوْلِهِمْ لاَوَهْ

Their saying 'ayyihā' makes me laugh, and their giving

the feminine hāʾ an i-vowel, along with their saying 'lāwah.'

اِتَّقِ اللهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ فَإِنَّ ال

لَّهَ رَبِّي مَعَ الذِينَ اتَّقَوْهُ

Fear Allah as much as you can, for

Allah, my Lord, is with those who fear Him.

وَاعْصِ إِبْلِيسَ وَاتَّخِذْهُ عَدُوّاً

إِنَّمَا يُفْلِحُ الذِينَ عَصَوْهُ

And disobey Iblis, and take him as an enemy;

only those who disobey him prosper.

وَاتْرُكِ النَّفْسَ وَاذْكُرْ رَبَّكَ إِقْبَا

لاً عَلَيْهِ مَعَ الذِينَ أَتَوْهُ

And leave the self behind, and remember your Lord,

turning toward Him with those who have come to Him.

لِتَرَى فَضْلَهُ الذِي مَا لَهُ حَ

دٌّ عِيَاناً مَعَ الذِينَ رَأَوْهُ

So you may see His bounty, which has no

limit, with your own eyes, among those who have seen it.

وَادْعُهُ ضَارِعاً لَهُ إِنَّ رَبِّي

لَقَرِيبٌ مِنَ الذِينَ دَعَوْهُ

And call upon Him, humbly beseeching Him: indeed, my Lord

is surely near to those who call upon Him.

وَارْتَدِ الدِينَ سَابِغاً وَاشْتَمِلْهُ

إِنَّمَا يَهْتَدِي الذِينَ ارْتَدَوْهُ

And wear religion as an ample garment, and wrap yourself in it;

only those who wear it are guided.

وَاشْتَرِ الرُّشْدَ بِالضَّلاَلَةِ وَاعْلَمْ

إِنَّمَا يَرْبَحُ الذِينَ اشْتَرَوْهُ

And purchase right guidance in exchange for error, and know:

only those who purchase it profit.

وَارْتَجِ اللهَ فَضْلَهُ وَاطْلُبَنْهُ

إِنَّمَا يَغْتَنِي الذِينَ ارْتَجَوْهُ

And hope in Allah for His bounty, and seek it earnestly;

only those who hope in Him grow rich.

وَاقْتَنِ الصَّبْرَ لِلنَّوَائِبِ وَاعْلَمْ

إِنَّمَا يَقْتَنِِي الذِينَ اقْتَنَوْهُ

And acquire patience for calamities, and know:

only those who have acquired it gain possessions.

وَابْتَنِ الأَجْرَ عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ بِالذِّكْ

رِ وَكُنْ مِنْ أَعْلَى الذِينَ ابْتَنَوْهُ

And build up reward with your Lord through

remembrance, and be among the highest of those who have built it.

وَاجْتَنِ الْعِلْمَ مِنْ حَدَائِقِ دَرْسٍ

وَلْتُنَافِسْ أَسْنَى الذِينَ اجْتَنَوْهُ

And harvest knowledge from the gardens of study,

and vie with the most illustrious of those who have harvested it.

وَاجْتَبِ المُجْتَبىَ لَدَى الشَّرْعِ وَاعْلَمْ

إِنَّمَا يَجْتَبِى الذِينَ اجْتَبَوْهُ

And select what is selected by the Law, and know:

only those who have selected it select.

وَاصْطَفِ الْمُصْطَفَى لِرَبِّكَ وَاعْلَمْ

إِنَّمَا يُصْطَفَى الذِينَ اصْطَفَوْهُ

And choose what is chosen for your Lord, and know:

only those who have chosen it are chosen.

وَارْتَضِ الْمُرْتَضَى مِنَ الْحَقِّ وَاعْلَمْ

إِنَّمَا يُرْتَضَى الذِينَ ارْتَضَوْهُ

And approve what is approved as right, and know:

only those who have approved it are approved.

وَامْتَطِ الْقَصْدَ فِي الأُمُورِ ذَلُولاً

إِنَّمَا يَبْلُغُ الذِينَ امْتَطَوْهُ

And ride moderation in affairs as a docile mount;

only those who ride it arrive.

وَاقْرِ ضَيْفَ الأَذَى احْتِمَالاً وَحِلْماً

إِنَّمَا يُحْمَدُ الذِينَ قَرَوْهُ

And host the guest of harm with endurance and forbearance;

only those who have hosted him are praised.

وَاجْتَنِبْ خَلْقَ كُلِّ مَا لَيْسَ تَفْرِي

فَالرِّجَالُ مَا يَخْلُقُونَ فَرَوْهُ

And avoid measuring out anything you will not cut;

for men cut out whatever they measure.

وَاخْشَ مِنْ مُفْسِدِ الصَّنِيعِ فَشَرُّ ال

خَلْقِ مَنْ رَمَّدُوا الذِي قَدْ شَوَوْهُ

And beware of one who spoils a kindness, for the worst

of people are those who cover with ashes what they have roasted.

وَالْزَمِ الْعِزَّ وَاأْبَ فِعْلَ الدَّنَايَا

فَرَفِيعٌ شَأْنُ الأُلَى قَدْ أَبَوْهُ

And hold fast to honor, and reject base conduct;

for exalted is the standing of those who have rejected it.

وَاجْتَوِ الْبَغْيَ وَانْتَبِذْ مِنْ ذَوِيهِ

مَا أَجَلَّ قَدْرَ الذِينَ اجْتَوَوْهُ

And abhor oppression, and withdraw from its people;

how exalted is the worth of those who abhor it!

وَاكْظِمِ الْغَيْظَ وَانْفِ عَنْكَ أَذَاهُ

أَيُّ عَيْشٍ عَيْشُ الذِينَ نَفَوْهُ

And restrain anger, and drive its harm away from you;

what a life is the life of those who have banished it!

مَلَكُوا أَمْرَهُمْ وَنَالُوا مُنَاهُمْ

عَاجِلاً وَسَعَى لَهُمْ مَا اشْتَهَوْهُ

They mastered their affairs and attained their wishes

at once, and what they desired hastened to serve them.

وَهَنَاهُمْ تَيْسِيرُ كُلِّ عَسِيرٍ

فَاحْتَسَوْا مِنْ أَفْرَاحِهِمْ مَا احْتَسَوْهُ

And the easing of every hardship delighted them,

so they sipped of their joys what they sipped.

وَارْقَيْنَ شَامِخَ الْعُلاَ باِلتَّعَامِي

فَكَذَلِكَ الْكِرَامُ قِدْماً رَقَوْهُ

And ascend the towering summit of eminence by turning a blind eye;

for so the noble climbed it in days of old.

وَاعْتَلِ الْفَخْرَ ذَا ارْتِفَاعٍ بِِمِعْرَا

جِ الْوَفَاءِ وَلَوْ لِِمَنْ مَا اعْتَلَوْهُ

And ascend lofty honor by

the ladder of loyalty, even toward those who have not ascended it.

وَارْفُ ثَوْبَ الْهُدَى بِمُنْصَحِ ثَوْبٍ

إِنَّ أَهْلَ النُّهَى كَذَاكَ رَفَوْهُ

And mend the robe of guidance with a needle for cloth;

indeed, people of understanding mended it thus.

وَابْتَغِ الْخُلْدَ فِي الْجَنَانِ وَجَاهِدْ

كَيْ تَرَى رُتْبَةَ الذِينَ ابْتَغَوْهُ

And seek eternity in the Gardens, and strive,

so that you may see the rank of those who have sought it.

وَاتْلُ دَأْباً كِتَابَ رَبِّكَ وَاسْلُكْ

بِاجْتِهَادٍ سَبِيلَ مَنْ قَدْ تَلََوْهُ

And continually recite your Lord's Book, and follow

with diligence the path of those who have recited it.

وَانْتَقِ الْفََضْلَ بِالصَّلاَةِ عَلَى أَزْ

كَى رَسُولٍ مِثْلَ الذِينَ انْتَقَوْهُ

And choose excellence by invoking blessings upon

the purest Messenger, like those who have chosen it.

فَعَلَيْهِ الصَّلاَةُ تَقْفُو سَلاَماً

مَا تَلاَ النَّاسُ هَدْيَهُ وَاقْتَفَوْهُ

So may blessings be upon him, following peace,

as long as people follow his guidance and tread in his footsteps.

وَعَلَى آلِهِ الْكِرَامِ الأُلَى حَا

زُوا الْفَخَارَ مِنْ أَجْلِهِ وَحَوَوْهُ

and upon his noble family, who

attained glory on his account and possessed it.

وَارْضَ يَا رَبَّنَا رِضىً غَيْرَ مَمْزُو

جٍ بِسُخْطٍ عَنِ الذِينَ حَمَوْهُ

And, O our Lord, be pleased—with pleasure never

mingled with wrath—with those who defended him,

وَعَنِ التَّابِعِينَ مَنْ بَلَغُوا هَدْ

يَهُمْ لِلْأُلَى اِهْتَدَوْهُ فَرَوَوْهُ

and with the Followers, who conveyed

their guidance to those who followed it and then transmitted it.
