The season of wishes has come,
The season of hopes has arrived
dispelling sorrows.
Relieving all sorrows
فَانْهَضْso rise بِنَاwith us وَاعْجَلْand hasten
لِدَوْحَةِto the spreading tree of الْبُسْتَانْthe garden
So rise with us and hasten
So rise with us and hasten
to the garden’s spreading tree.
To the garden's great canopy
قُمْrise فَاسْقِso pour يَاO خَمَّارْwine-seller
وَاتْرَعْand fill to the brim كُؤُوسَcups of الرَّاحْwine
Rise and pour, O wine-seller,
Arise and pour, O tavern-keeper
and fill the wine cups to the brim—
And fill the cups of wine to the brim
صَهْبَاtawny wine كَلَوْنِlike the color of النَّارْfire
tawny, like the color of fire,
A reddish wine like the color of fire
driving grief away.
That drives away all grief
أَمَاdo … not? تَرَىyou see النُّوَّارْthe blossoms
قَدْalready دَبَّجَbrocaded الأَدْوَاحْthe spreading trees
Do you not see how the blossoms
Do you not see the blossoms
have brocaded the spreading trees?
Have embroidered the great trees
وَالطَّيْرُand the birds قَدْalready وَلْوَلْcried aloud
فَأَطْرَبَso enraptured الأَغْصَانْthe branches
And the birds have cried aloud,
And the birds have sung their trills
and so enraptured the branches.
Enrapturing the branches
وَالْوَرْدُand the rose قَدْalready أَخْجَلْput to shame
شَقَائِقَanemones of النُّعْمَانْal-Nuʿmān
And the rose has put to shame
And the rose has put to shame
the anemones of al-Nuʿmān.
The red anemones
وَالزَّهْرُand the flowers قَدْalready نَضَّدْarrayed
عَمَاturbans (first fragment) ئِمَturbans (final fragment) الأَthe trees (first fragment) شْجَارْthe trees (final fragment)
And the flowers have arrayed
And the flowers have arranged
the turbans of the trees.
The turbans of the trees
وَالنَّوْرُand the blossoms قَدْalready عَرْبَدْcaroused
بِخَمْرَةِwith the wine of الأَنْهَارْthe rivers
And the blossoms have caroused
And the blossoms revelled drunkenly
on the wine of the rivers.
With the wine of the rivers
فَهَذَاso this كَالْعَسْجَدْlike gold
وَذَاكَand that كَالْبُلاَّرْlike crystal
So this is like gold,
For this one is like gold
and that is like crystal:
And that one is like crystal
وَأَبْيَضٍand white فَتَّانْbewitching

some yellow and ailing,
Of a pale, languishing yellow
and some white and bewitching,
And a captivating white
وَأَحْمَرٍand red مُخْضَلّْْdew-drenched
وَأَخْضَرٍand green فَيْنَانْluxuriant
and some red and dew-drenched,
And a dewy red
and some green and luxuriant.
And a lush, leafy green
