يَوَدُّ لِئَامٌ خُيِّبُوا هُمُ خَيْبَتِي
وَحَالِيand my condition مِمَّاof what أَبْتَغِيI seek أَبَداًforever خَالِيempty
وَحَالِي مِمَّا أَبْتَغِي أَبَداً خَالِي
Base men—may they themselves be disappointed—wish for my failure,
The wicked wish me disappointed, though my state
Vile men, disappointed themselves, desire my disappointment,
And for my lot to be forever empty of what I seek.
Is never as I wish, but always as fate's will dictates.
And my state is forever free from what I seek.
وَيَرْجُوand hopes كِرَامٌnoble men سُلِّمُواmay they be kept safe هُمْthey themselves سَلاَمَتِيmy safety
وَيَرْجُو كِرَامٌ سُلِّمُوا هُمْ سَلاَمَتِي
وَحَالِيand my condition مَدَىthroughout دَهْرِيmy lifetime بِكُلِّwith every عُلاًglory حَالِيadorned
وَحَالِي مَدَى دَهْرِي بِكُلِّ عُلاً حَالِي
And noble men—may they themselves be kept safe—hope for my safety,
The noble wish me safe, though my lot
While noble men, safe themselves, hope for my safety,
And for my lot, throughout my life, to be adorned with every glory.
Is for all time, in every way, my own anguished plot.
And my state, all my days, is adorned with every glory.
