عَبْدُservant of السَّلاَمِthe Source of Peace وَمَنْand who عَبْدُservant of السَّلاَمِthe Source of Peace إِذَاwhen
عَبْدُ السَّلاَمِ وَمَنْ عَبْدُ السَّلاَمِ إِذَا
يُعْنَىshows concern بِعَبْدِfor the servant of الْعَزِيزِthe Almighty عَمِّهِhis uncle السَّامِيthe exalted
يُعْنَى بِعَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ عَمِّهِ السَّامِي
Abd al-Salam—and who is Abd al-Salam when
Abd al-Salam, and who is Abd al-Salam when
he cares for Abd al-Aziz, his exalted uncle?
he devotes himself to his exalted uncle, Abd al-Aziz?
إِذْfor ذَاكَthat man صِنْوُthe full brother of أَبِيهِhis father الْبَرِّthe virtuous مَوْضِعُهُhis place
إِذْ ذَاكَ صِنْوُ أَبِيهِ الْبَرِّ مَوْضِعُهُ
مَنْwithin قَلْبُهُhis heart مَوْضِعٌa place لَمْhas not يُصْمِهِstruck it fatally رَامِan archer
مَنْ قَلْبُهُ مَوْضِعٌ لَمْ يُصْمِهِ رَامِ
For that man is his virtuous father's brother; his place
Since that uncle is his righteous father's brother, his position
within his heart is one no archer has pierced.
is that of one whose heart is a fortress no archer can strike.
عَبْدُservant of السَّلاَمِthe Source of Peace بِذَاthrough this تَحْوِيyou gain الْوَرَىhumankind خَدَماًas servants
عَبْدُ السَّلاَمِ بِذَا تَحْوِي الْوَرَى خَدَماً
وَذُوand one possessing النَّبَاهَةِdistinction مُحْتَاجٌin need لِخُدَّامِof servants
وَذُو النَّبَاهَةِ مُحْتَاجٌ لِخُدَّامِ
Abd al-Salam, through this you gain mankind as servants,
O Abd al-Salam, by this you draw all mankind as servants,
and a man of distinction has need of servants.
and the man of eminence is surely in need of servants.
دُمْremain سَنَداًa support لِذَوِيfor those of قُرْبَاكَyour kinship مُعْتَمِداًtrusting
دُمْ سَنَداً لِذَوِي قُرْبَاكَ مُعْتَمِداً
وَبَحْرُand the sea of فَخْرِكَyour glory غَمْرٌdeep طَافِحٌoverflowing طَامِsurging high
وَبَحْرُ فَخْرِكَ غَمْرٌ طَافِحٌ طَامِ
Remain a support to your kinsfolk, ever trusting,
Remain a steadfast support for your kin, a trusted pillar,
while the sea of your glory is deep, overflowing, surging.
as the ocean of your glory swells, overflowing and surging.
فَإِنَّfor indeed زَهْرَةَthe bloom of ذِيthis الدُّنْيَاworld وَزِينَتَهَاand its adornment
فَإِنَّ زَهْرَةَ ذِي الدُّنْيَا وَزِينَتَهَا
وَمَاand whatever يَرُوقُis pleasing بِهَاin it أَضْغَاثُtangles of أَحْلَامِdreams
وَمَا يَرُوقُ بِهَا أَضْغَاثُ أَحْلَامِ
For this world's bloom and its adornment,
For truly, the splendor of this world and its adornments,
and all that pleases in it, are tangled dreams.
and all that delights within it, are but a jumble of dreams.
وَقَدْand indeed رَجَوْتُI have hoped لِسَلاَّمٍfor Sallam سَلاَمَتَهَاits safety
وَقَدْ رَجَوْتُ لِسَلاَّمٍ سَلاَمَتَهَا
فَحَقَّقَso may He fulfill اللهُGod مَاwhat أَرْجُوI hope for لِسَلاَّمِfor Sallam
فَحَقَّقَ اللهُ مَا أَرْجُو لِسَلاَّمِ
And I have hoped that it stay safe for Sallam;
And I have prayed for Sallam to be safe from its illusions,
so may God fulfill what I hope for Sallam.
so may Allah fulfill all that I hope for Sallam.
