We took the path of the fellowship, giving thanks to a master

    who guided us to it through the finest guide, himself rightly guided;

    وَعَنْ نَجْلِ هَذَا أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ

    from al-Hasan al-Yusi, from Nasir's son,

    and from this one's son, Ahmad ibn Muhammad;

through him, from al-Raqqi, Abd al-Ilah, from

    his guide al-Hahi, Mawlay Ahmad,

under his spiritual pole al-Ghazi, under his fellow townsman,

Ali, Sijilmasi in origin and lineage.

And after him come the Ahmads: Ibn Yusuf,

then Zarruq, then Ibn Uqba, rescuer of the doomed.

Al-Qarafi, disciple of Ibn Ata, traced it

to his al-Mursi, linked to al-Shadhili, who was upheld

by Abd al-Salam, the spiritual pole of all the poles.

So each, through him, boasts of one without equal.

So do not be shy of saying openly:

"Hear, O servants of God: behold, that is my master!"

    فَلِلَّهِ مَا شَمْسٌ أُضِيفَتْ لِفَرْقَدِ

    I trace my affiliation to al-Madani, Abd al-Rahman;

Glory to God—what a sun has been joined to a Farqad star!

And he is traced to Tuqayy al-Din, named in the diminutive

to honor him, as with 'the little poor man'; follow that example.

The spiritual poles, then, are Fakhr al-Din, Nur al-Din, Taj al-Din,

then Shams al-Din, Zayn al-Din; order them, and be rightly guided.

And he shone in Qazwin, ever since he began

going out at evening and dawn in a Basri's robe of honor,

just as Ibrahim deemed Ahmad praiseworthy,

who is traced to Marwan, since he granted him a praiseworthy gift.

Sa'id gave him his brimming cup to drink, just as

Fakhr al-Su'ud gave him drink from it, to gladden him

through grace and divine aid; for God elects

for Himself the one He chooses among those who affirm His oneness.

So this one, through the Ghazwaniyya, has conquered the heights,

and they yielded to him, whether in pairs or singly.

And whoever has Jabir as his teacher is triumphant

in attaining the loftiest heights, in every course and aim.

For the Compeller has secured restoration for Jabir

through what Hasan, Muhammad's grandson, bestowed on him.

Upon his grandfather, who distinguished him with lordship,

be the Great One's blessing, bearing an everlasting spirit.

And he is the first of the spiritual poles; plead humbly, by his standing,

    to God, and you will gain whatever bounty you wish;

and by the masters, the spiritual poles, in East and West,

and every worshipper whom this verse has encompassed.

Upon them be God's peace, from one thirsting

for a draught of theirs that quenches the thirsty one's burning thirst.
