Glad tidings to you—congratulations on the exalted Ali,

lofty in rank, the son of Abu Ali.

You were called Abu Ali before, while still alone,

and through this boy became father of the exalted one as well.

For that is a name matched by its bearer,

and this a father's title, through a namesake son.

He will resemble you in noble attainments,

and in the admirable character you have acquired.

So he will succeed the one you succeeded—your father, a grandfather

of his who surpassed every proud father.

May God protect him, living on after death,

and preserve his memory in every clan.
