And an evening whose beauty’s splendor kindled
In an evening when the scent of her beauty was most fragrant
And many an evening whose radiant beauty kindled
Between the ribs the searing flame of longing.
Among the souls, desire stirred restlessly
within the breast the searing flames of longing;

Its golden velvet cloths spread through gardens
The gowns of her splendor spread out into gardens
It spread its carpets of pure gold across gardens
Embroidered with the emerald of leaves.
Studded with emeralds of leaves
embroidered with the chrysolite of the leaves,

بِلَظَى النَّوَى قُمْ هَاتِهَا يَا سَاقِ
It summoned to the wine of fellowship one scorched with longing,
Yearning for the intimacy she kindled, scorched with passion
Summoning to the wine of intimacy one whose heart is consumed
By separation’s blaze. Rise, bring it, O cupbearer!
By the flames of separation—come, bring her here, O fate!
by the blaze of separation: "Arise and bring it, O cupbearer!"
