I have feared that I might live on, yet be left without

your grace, O possessor of grace and bounty,

and so reap humiliation from my poverty,

and draw rain from the clouds of illness,

    unceasing in their torrential downpour,

and be scorched by the ember of anguish.

Then the burning of the mind is doubled,

so I gain the frustration of hopes,

so I buy retreat at the price of advance,

and don the cloaks of error,

so I come at last to the mire of corruption,

through the evil deeds I have amassed.

Grant me your protection, O possessor of forbearance and graciousness!
