عَرْفَthe fragrance خُيُورٍgood deeds فِيكَin you مُبْيَضَّهْturned white
The gillyflower in the garden bestowed on us
The generous man offered us in the garden
The gillyflower in the garden has gifted us
the fragrance of good deeds shining white in you.
The fragrance of bountiful meadows
The fragrance of pure, radiant virtues found within you.
أَصْفَرُهُits yellow الْفَاقِعُvivid مِنْof ذَهَبٍgold

Its vivid yellow is of gold,
Its golden flowers dazzling like gold
Its bright yellow is forged from gold,
and its pure white is of silver.
And its white blossoms glistening like silver
And its pristine white is cast from silver.
وَالأَحْمَرُand the red الْفَاقِعُvivid وَجْنَةُthe cheek مَنْone who

And its vivid red is the cheek of one
Its red flowers blazing and a beauty spot for
And its vivid red is the cheek of one
a part of whom lured the lovesick toward the whole.
He who allures all the afflicted with part of it
Whose mere fraction has wholly captivated the afflicted lover;

فَعَضَّهُthen bit him فِيon خَدِّهِhis cheek عَضَّهْa bite
Bashfulness crept toward him in secret,
Timidity crept to it bashfully
A blush of shyness crept up on him in secret,
then gave him a bite upon his cheek.
And bit its cheek with its bite
And placed a tender bite upon his cheek.

Were it not for the withering that overtakes it once gathered,
If it were not for some withering that afflicts its harvest
Were it not for the wilting that afflicts it when plucked,
I would call it the master's fresh bounties.
I would say it is the fresh hands of the Lord
I would have said it was the tender hands of the master,

A generous hand of his bestowed them,
A palm that is generous to it has bestowed
Bestowed by a generous palm of his that freely gives,
which has known no closing since it opened.
It has not known stinginess since it opened its grasp
Which has never known a closed fist since the day it opened.

May his eminence endure, with wishes standing
May his supremacy last, and purpose remains
May his eminence endure, with hopes standing ready
before him, earnest in their striving.
In front of him, true to the covenant
Before him, true and steadfast in their ascent.
