العصرُthe age منbecause of شَكواكَyour suffering ظْلَمْhas darkened
My lord, O possessor of the grandest glory,
My Master, O You of splendid glory
My Lord, O possessor of the most magnificent glory,
The age has darkened because of your suffering,
The era complains of your oppression
The era has grown dark from your affliction,
إِذْsince أَنْتَyou شمسُsun of كَمالِهِits perfection
فَافْهَمْso understand فَغيرُكَfor anyone other than you لَيسَdoes not يَفْهَمْunderstand
For you are the sun of its perfection;
When you are the sun of its perfection
Since you are the sun of its perfection;
So understand, for no one else understands.
So understand, for none other understands
So understand, for none but you can comprehend.
هذاthis وعذرُand the excuse of سَقامكُمyour illness
فيfor مُكْثِهِits lingering بِكُمُwithin you مُسَلَّمْaccepted
That said, your illness's excuse
This is the excuse for your illness
And thus, the excuse for your ailment
for lingering within you is accepted:
In staying with them, submitted
In lingering within you, is undisputed.
وَافاكُمُit came to you مُتَبرِّكاًseeking blessings
فاسْتَعْذَبَso it found sweet الْمَثْوَىthe lodging فَخَيَّمْso it pitched camp
It came to you seeking blessings,
Blessing them in your coming
It came unto you seeking a blessing,
so it found the lodging sweet and pitched camp.
Making residence wholesome, so settled
Found the dwelling sweet, and pitched its tent.

The signs of your majesty dazzled it—
Dazzled by the signs of your glory
It was dazzled by the signs of your majesty—
by God, how splendid and magnificent!
To God, how excellent and grand
By God, how radiant and how grand!

So may you be spared, O sun of the age,
You were shielded, O sun of time
May you be spared, O sun of the age,
the eclipse of this ailment, so that we may be safe.
From the eclipse of complaints, so we acquiesce
The eclipse of this affliction, so that we may be safe.
