Through you, pearls—O pearl with which time is adorned—

have risen in glory; but for that, they would not look lovely upon the breast.

And in your versified speech are pearls strung together,

before which the scattered pearls from the sea’s depths melt away.

And in blooming flowers from the garden of your poetry

lies the fullest life of the mind, something not found in flowers.

And your flowers endure for all time, while flowers wither.

May you endure as long as time, not as long as flowers and bright stars.
