لُذْ بِالذِي يُشْكِيكَ إِنْ تَشْكُو

لُذْ بِالذِي يُشْكِيكَ إِنْ تَشْكُو

وَلَهُ التَّصَرُّفُ جَلَّ وَالْمُلْكُ

وَلَهُ التَّصَرُّفُ جَلَّ وَالْمُلْكُ

Seek refuge in Him who grants you redress if you complain.

Take pleasure in the one who makes you complain, if you complain

Seek refuge in the One who removes your grievance when you complain,

And His are control and sovereignty—exalted is He.

And to Him belong the arranging of all affairs and the dominion

For to Him belongs the disposal of all affairs—exalted is He—and the dominion.

وَالنَّاسُ كُلٌّ طَوْعُ قُدْرَتِهِ

وَالنَّاسُ كُلٌّ طَوْعُ قُدْرَتِهِ

سَيَّانِ فِيهَا الْعَبْدُ وَالْمَلْكُ

سَيَّانِ فِيهَا الْعَبْدُ وَالْمَلْكُ

And all people are subject to His power.

And all people are subject to His power

And all mankind is fully subject to His power,

Under it, slave and king are equal.

The servant and the king are equal under it

Wherein the servant and the king are perfectly equal.

وَعَلَيْهِ فَاعْتَمِدَنْ أَخَا ثِقَةٍ

وَعَلَيْهِ فَاعْتَمِدَنْ أَخَا ثِقَةٍ

إِنْ مَسَّكَ الإِقْوَاءُ وَالنَّهْكُ

إِنْ مَسَّكَ الإِقْوَاءُ وَالنَّهْكُ

And rely firmly upon Him, O man of trust,

And in Him place your trust, O brother of confidence

So rely upon Him completely, O brother of unwavering trust,

If poverty and exhaustion touch you.

If hardship and weakness befall you

If destitution and profound exhaustion should ever afflict you.

وَإِذَا افْتَقَرْتَ فَلاَ تَحُمْ أَبَداً

وَإِذَا افْتَقَرْتَ فَلاَ تَحُمْ أَبَداً

حَوْلَ الذِي بِقَضَائِهِ يَشْكُو

حَوْلَ الذِي بِقَضَائِهِ يَشْكُو

And if you become poor, never hover

And when you are needy, never feel embarrassed

And if you fall into poverty, do not ever hover

Around one who complains of His decree.

About the one whose decree makes you complain

Around the one who complains of His divine decree.

وَكُنِ الْغَنِيَّ بِمَا لَدَيْهِ تَرِدْ

وَكُنِ الْغَنِيَّ بِمَا لَدَيْهِ تَرِدْ

صَفْوَ الْيَقِينِ وَيَنْتَفِي الشَّكُّ

صَفْوَ الْيَقِينِ وَيَنْتَفِي الشَّكُّ

And be rich through what He holds; you will reach

And be rich with what is with Him, you will attain

Find your wealth in what is with Him, that you may come to drink

The clear waters of certainty, and doubt will vanish.

The essence of certainty and doubt will vanish

From the pure spring of certainty, where all doubt is banished.

وَاحْمَدْهُ فِي سِرٍّ وَفِي عَلَنٍ

وَاحْمَدْهُ فِي سِرٍّ وَفِي عَلَنٍ

حَمْداً يَطِيبُ بِعَرْفِهِ الْمِسْكُ

حَمْداً يَطِيبُ بِعَرْفِهِ الْمِسْكُ

And praise Him in secret and in public,

And praise Him secretly and openly

And praise Him in secret and in the open,

With praise whose fragrance sweetens musk.

With a praise whose aroma pleases musk

With a praise by whose fragrance musk itself is made sweet.

وَاشْكُرْهُ إِنْ أَسْدَى إِلَيْكَ يَداً

وَاشْكُرْهُ إِنْ أَسْدَى إِلَيْكَ يَداً

تَنَلِ الْغِنَى وَيَعُلُّكَ النُّسْكُ

تَنَلِ الْغِنَى وَيَعُلُّكَ النُّسْكُ

And thank Him if He gives you a helping hand;

And thank Him if He lends you a hand

And thank Him whenever He extends a gracious favor unto you;

You will attain wealth, and worship will give you drink anew.

You will attain wealth and asceticism will uplift you

You will attain true wealth, and devotion will deeply quench your soul.
