أمس ولو كنتَ عُدت لم تَرِشِ
Your failure to visit us did not wear us down
Your absence from my bedside brought me no harm last night,
yesterday; and even had you visited, you would not have strengthened us.
And had you returned, you would not have cured me.

You are not one whose visit cures someone of
You are not the one whose return brings healing from illness,
illness, or without whose visit they cannot live.
And whose absence causes death.

By God, what a man you would be if you reproached and did not
By God, you are not the one, if you were to blame me or bear me a grudge,
bear a grudge, just as you did not act rashly when you reproached.
As when you blamed me, you did not tyrannize.
