You were struck by calamities; I was your partner
You were struck with calamities in which I was extremely cruel
in them, lavish in giving and in grief.
With much audacity and lamentations towards you

Why, then, do I seem to you like the one
So why am I to you as if I
who hurled them at you, rather than the ravages of Death?
Was the one who afflicted you with them without doubt of fate

May God water those we cried over their death
in grief for your grief, with streaming tears,
With sorrow for your misfortunes with abundant, flowing tears

If only we could have protected them

And guarded them for you between the eyelids

لأصبح نصْباً لرجْم الظنون
And had this come from someone other than you,
And if these had come from anyone but you
he would have become a target to be pelted with suspicions,
It would have been an object of the conjectures' stoning

"A touch of madness has struck him."
An aberration of madness has struck him
