لا ترى نرجساً يشبَّه بالور

لا ترى نرجساً يشبَّه بالور

دِ إذا ما أردت فكراً وعينا

دِ إذا ما أردت فكراً وعينا

You see no narcissus likened to the rose,

You will not see a narcissus that resembles a rose

if you wish to use thought and sight;

When you desire a thought and an eye.

ومن الورد ما يُشَبَّهُ بالنَرْ

ومن الورد ما يُشَبَّهُ بالنَرْ

جِسِ علماً بأن في ذاك رينا

جِسِ علماً بأن في ذاك رينا

and some roses are likened to the narcissus,

And of the roses there are those that resemble narcissi,

knowing that in this lies a blemish.

Knowing that in that there is meagerness.
