أتانيit reached me عنconcerning جاريكyour regular allowance أنْthat قدalready قطعتَهyou cut it off
وفيand in لؤمكَyour meanness المشهورwell-known ماwhatever شئتَyou wish منof عُذْرِexcuse
Word has reached me that you have cut off your regular allowance.
My neighbor told me that you severed him
And in your well-known meanness lies whatever excuse you wish.
And with your notorious injustice, you excused whatever you wished
فهبْso suppose ذلكthat الدينارthe dinar صَاحبَlord طالعيmy ascendant
منamong الأنجُمthe stars السيارةِwandering السبعةthe seven الزُّهرِbright
So suppose that dinar is the lord of my ascendant,
So return that gold coin to the owner of my fate
Among the seven bright, wandering stars.
Among the seven moving stars, the flowers
وأنتand you الذيthe one who تُجريهyou set it in motion ليfor me وتنيرُهُand you make it shine
وفيهand in it الذيwhat أرجوI hope for منof الرزقsustenance والعُمْرِand life
And you are the one who sets it in motion for me and makes it shine,
You who let it flow to me and illuminate it
And in it lies what I hope for of sustenance and life.
In it lies what I hope for, of sustenance and life
ألستَare you not حقيقاًdeserving بالدعاءof a prayer بكُدرةٍfor gloom
وأنand that أتلقَّىI receive ذاكthat إنif كانit happens بالشكرِwith thanks
Are you not deserving of a prayer that gloom befall you,
Are you not truly worthy of prayer in distress
And of my greeting that, should it come, with thanks?
That I receive this, if it comes with gratitude
