ماnot أنصفdid justice to الآسthe myrtle بالياسَمينto jasmine مُشْبِهُهُthe one who likens it
والآسand the myrtle منهfrom it مكانُthe place of الياءthe letter yāʾ مفقودُmissing
Whoever likens myrtle to jasmine has done myrtle no justice.
The cypress was not just to the jasmine
And in myrtle, the place of the letter yāʾ is vacant.
Comparing it, where in cypress the y is lost
والياسمينand jasmine إذاif حصَّلْتَyou examine أحْرُفَهُits letters
فاليأسُthen despair منهin it مكانَat the place of الياءthe letter yāʾ معدودُcounted
And jasmine, if you examine its letters—
And jasmine, if you compile its letters
Then 'despair' is counted in it where the yāʾ stands.
Despair in it, the y's place is counted

Indeed, the proof of this is that this one falls away,
The proof of this is the scattering of one
While that one remains through the days.
And that over days can still be found
