سمَّاكcalled you خُرءاًshit بخلٍّwith vinegar
لاno شكَّdoubt شيخٌold man مغفَّلْfoolish
Whoever called you shit with vinegar
was surely a foolish old man.
لأنbecause فيin الخُرءthe shit نفعاًbenefit
للنخلِfor date palms والخلُّand vinegar يؤكَلْis eaten
For shit is useful
to date palms, and vinegar is eaten.
وأنتand you ماnot فيكin you نَفْعٌbenefit
ولاnor لنفعٍfor any benefit تُؤمَّلْyou are looked to
And there is no benefit in you,
nor are you looked to for any benefit.
فلسْتَso you are not خُرْءاًshit بخلّwith vinegar
لكنbut صديدٌpus بحنظلْwith colocynth
So you are not shit with vinegar,
but pus with colocynth.
وإنّand indeed هذينthese two عنديin my view
فيamong الخَلْقِcreated things منكthan you لأمثلْsurely better
And these two, in my view,
are, among created things, surely better than you,
وللمنافِعand for benefits إنif عُدْare counted (first part)
دَتِcompletion of 'are counted' المنافعُthe benefits أخْيَلْmore promising
and, for usefulness—if
the benefits are counted—more promising.
