عَذيريَmy vindicator منagainst بدرthe full moon of السماءthe sky لحظتُهI glanced at him
فوكَّلso he tasked إنسانيmy eye’s pupil برعيْwith watching الفراقِدِthe polar stars
Who will vindicate me against heaven’s full moon? I glanced at him,
My excuse is that I glimpsed his full moon face
so he set my eye’s pupil to watching the polar stars.
So I left my humanity to tend the tombs
وآنستُهand I befriended him فازدادso he grew more نفراًskittishness كأنهas though he
وإيايَwith me ظَبيa gazelle قدhad أحسَّbecome aware بصائدِof a hunter
And I befriended him, but he grew more skittish, as though he
And found him companionable, yet he recoiled
in my presence were a gazelle that had sensed a hunter.
Like a deer with me who sensed a hunter nearby
لينكرhe surely denies ماwhat أشكوI lament بخلوةbecause of the emptiness of قلبهhis heart
وليسand there is none لشكْوىfor the lament of واجدٍa lover غيرُother than واجدِa lover
He surely denies what I lament, for his heart is untouched by love,
That he might deny what I lament in his heart's solitude
and none understands a lover’s lament but another lover.
For no complainer finds a confidant but another complainer
