فأنتthen you لديَّin my eyes فيin حَدِّthe category of الغوانيbeautiful women
فأنت لديَّ في حَدِّ الغواني
Whenever I find your delay pleasing, O son of Yahya,
When I approved your gaze, O son of Yahya
then you rank, in my eyes, with beautiful women.
To me you were the epitome of the beautiful ones
لماwould not أحسنتُI did well فيin قوليmy speech وعقليand my judgment
لما أحسنتُ في قولي وعقلي
متىwhenever استحسنتُI found pleasing منكfrom you سِوَىother than الحسانbeautiful things
متى استحسنتُ منك سِوَى الحسان
I would not have done well in my speech and judgment
When I was at my best in words and mind
if ever I admired anything from you but what is beautiful.
