إذاwhen غمرengulfs المالُwealth البخيلَthe miser وجَدْتَهُyou find him
إذا غمر المالُ البخيلَ وجَدْتَهُ
يَزيدُhe increases بهthrough it يُبساًin dryness وإنand even if ظُنَّhe is thought يَرْطُبُhe grows moist
يَزيدُ به يُبساً وإن ظُنَّ يَرْطُبُ
When wealth engulfs the miser, you find him
When wealth engulfs the miser you will find
Growing drier through it, even if he is thought to grow moist.
It makes him drier though he's thought to be wet,
وليسand it is not عجيباًstrange ذاكthat منهُfrom him فإنهُfor it is the case that
وليس عجيباً ذاك منهُ فإنهُ
إذاwhen غمرengulfs الماءُwater الحجارةَthe stones تَصلبُthey harden
إذا غمر الماءُ الحجارةَ تَصلبُ
And that is no wonder in him, for
And this is no surprise for when immersed
When water engulfs stones, they harden.
In water, rocks will harder, stonier get.
