إذاwhen اختطّlays out قومٌa people خِطةًa plot of land لمدينةٍfor a city
إذا اختطّ قومٌ خِطةً لمدينةٍ
تقاضتهمُit demands of them أضعافَهاmany times its area للمقابِرfor graveyards
تقاضتهمُ أضعافَها للمقابِر
When a people lays out a plot for a city,
If a people draft a plan for a city
it demands of them many times that area for graveyards.
It will demand of them many times over for the graves
وفيand in ذاكthat ماthat which ينهاهُمُdeters them أنto يشيّدواbuild high
وفي ذاك ما ينهاهُمُ أن يشيّدوا
وأنand to يقتنواacquire possessions إلاexcept كزادlike the provisions of المسافرِthe traveler
وأن يقتنوا إلا كزاد المسافرِ
And in that lies a warning against building high,
And in that is what would forbid them to build
and against acquiring anything save the like of a traveler's provisions.
And acquire except as provisions for a traveler
