Welcome the Mihrajan festival with joy,

for the reign of sorrow has passed from you.

And greet your obliging drinking companion with

narcissus between the pitcher and the cup.

And listen to the songstresses sing of you—do

you hear anything but praise of you?

O you who, like Mihrajan, inaugurate

the reign of rain with the finest beginning,

everyone, when you take your morning draught, drinks

from your two hands' bounty the finest morning draught.

May God grant you long life in joy and raise

you, through that eminence, beyond praise.

O you whose virtues, when counted,

serve your enemies in place of prayer beads,

so request the delightful songs, believing

that you are the best that desire could ask for.

Desire has never sought your like, son of Abu

Bakr, for the gifts we hope for.

Nor, for all our fastidious taste, have we chosen

your like, O possessor of radiant virtues.

So rejoice in that over an evening draught,

and rejoice in that over a morning draught.
