فقلت أنَّى وكيف ذاكا
They said, “Water has filled Wahb’s belly.”
They said that the water quenched the belly of Wahb
So I said, “Whence, and how can that be?”
So I said: How can that be?

Where are his digestive remedies, which
Where are the maidens

We have never seen, O Wahb, a man given to prostitution
We have not seen, O Wahb, one with lust
with a dropsical belly, other than you.
Seeking to quench his belly except you

If it has done you no good at all—
If it does not benefit you at all
the impact of the digestives within your bowels—
The falling of maidens into your lap

لقد سُقي الماءَ بطنُ سوءٍ

then a wicked belly has indeed been filled with water;
The water has quenched the belly of an evil one
may my Lord heal it, but not heal you.
May God cure him, not cure you
