تداركَcame to the rescue of وهباًWahb كلامُthe speech of استهِhis arse
تداركَ وهباً كلامُ استهِ
وقدand indeed كادnearly منfrom عيِّهِhis inability to speak أنto يموتاdie
وقد كاد من عيِّهِ أن يموتا
The speech of his arse came to Wahb’s rescue,
His words came to his aid as a gift
when he had nearly died of being tongue-tied.
Though he had nearly died of his folly
وأُقسِمُand I swear باللهby God لوif أنهthat he
وأُقسِمُ بالله لو أنه
كفاهاdid on its behalf الكلامَthe talking كَفَتْهُit did on his behalf السكوتاthe keeping quiet
كفاها الكلامَ كَفَتْهُ السكوتا
And I swear by God, had he
And I swear by God, if only
done the talking for it, it would have kept quiet for him.
Silence had spared him words, it would have spared him more
