تأخَّر من ثوابك ما أرَجِّي

تأخَّر من ثوابك ما أرَجِّي

وما بعد الذي أنظرت بَعْدُ

وما بعد الذي أنظرت بَعْدُ

The reward I hope for from you has been delayed;

The reward I hope for has been delayed

and beyond the respite you have granted, there is no more 'later.'

And after what I looked forward to

أعيذُك أن يكون نداك يأتي

أعيذُك أن يكون نداك يأتي

وليس له على الأحشاء بَرْدُ

وليس له على الأحشاء بَرْدُ

I seek protection for you lest your bounty arrive

I pray you do not come as an equal

without bringing cool relief to the inward parts.

With no love for my heart

وذاك بأن تطيل المطل حتى

وذاك بأن تطيل المطل حتى

ينال النفسَ منه أذىً وجَهْدُ

ينال النفسَ منه أذىً وجَهْدُ

And that happens when you prolong the delay until

That's because you prolonged the waiting until

harm and hardship from it afflict the soul.

My soul was pained and exhausted by it

هنالك لا يساعِد فيك حمدٌ

هنالك لا يساعِد فيك حمدٌ

وهل لمُكَدِّرِ المعروف حَمْدُ

وهل لمُكَدِّرِ المعروف حَمْدُ

Then no praise will come to your aid;

There, praise cannot help you in me

and is there praise for one who taints a kindness?

Can one who spoils favors be praised?
