The phantom wandered, yet never wandered from remembrance of you.
My imagination roamed, but did not roam from reminiscing about you.
It was the noblest apparition ever to arrive as a nighttime guest.
So it was the noblest phantom that came visiting generously,

With tender narcissus and ripe apples.

Only for misery that the deceived sees as joy.

May God banish your guest that came from the abode of illusions,
of illusions to a heart-stricken, love-possessed man!
Blinding the heart with its strongest of spells.

It is the departure whose aftermath is but form without essence,
in its first offering the savor of life.
Although souls may find in it a taste of pleasant living.

Marvel at a visited lover's longing that led his visitor!
I am astonished at fake ecstasy that led its visitor astray,
Yet memories have always summoned apparitions.
When tears are false and the self remains desiccated.

The essence of love is more calamitous than its semblance,
your memory and sleep fetched a visitor long aloof.
As you know, and the worst of disease is that which is latent.

Sometimes a pigeon, and other times a silent abode,
the image of one who is not faithful, even when arriving.
Unless it restores the soul with loud laments.

they encircled the moon as companions and peers.
Or a flash of lightning that consoles the heart in the darkness.

Or the moan of the Prophet's love that does not cease
in beauty; their beauty utterly eclipsed those jewels.
To rouse for the infatuated, passions and desires.

A share that surpasses the share of the judicious.

He whose judgment you see no injustice.

No observer has ever found justice in it.

And a sanctuary for one who aspires and fears.

Though sometimes his abundance diminishes.
