Are messengers from hearts to hearts.

والشوقُand longing يفعلdoes بالعزاءto consolation
والشوقُ يفعل بالعزاء
فعلَthe action of الإنابةrepentance بالذنوبْto sins
فعلَ الإنابة بالذنوبْ
And longing does to consolation
And yearning does to consolation
What repentance does to sins.
What repentance does to sins.
لاno والذيby the one who بجفائهِthrough his coldness
لا والذي بجفائهِ
وَصَلَjoined المدامعَthe tears بالنحيبْwith sobbing
وَصَلَ المدامعَ بالنحيبْ
No—by the one who, through his coldness,
No, by Him whose aloofness
Joined tears with sobbing—
Joined tears to lamentation,
ماnot شفَّwasted جسميmy body فيin الهوىlove
ما شفَّ جسمي في الهوى
إلاexcept مراقبةُwatchfulness toward الرقيبْthe watcher
إلا مراقبةُ الرقيبْ
Nothing has wasted my body in love
My body gained no relief in love
Except my wariness of the watcher.
Save through the watcher's oversight.
